Along with being a face painter, temporary tattoo artist, and creating henna hand designs, I am also a storyteller, dancer, clown and balloon sculpture artist in the Greater El Paso and Las Cruces Areas.
Of the Top 3 Face Painters in the greater El Paso, Texas, USA, Georgie Girl has held the record the longest, and also serves communities surrounding Las Cruces, New Mexico as well.
“Congratulations to Georgena ‘Georgie Girl’ Askew and her ‘FACE-ON FACE-OFF’ creative labor-of-love being awarded as the top of her service… face-painting, storytelling, balloon art, etcetera, most likely #1 of the ‘Top 3’ in this category in and beyond the greater El Paso area.
As of 2020, made for THREE DECADES that Georgie Girl has been painting on faces, cheeks, arms, hands, ankles of children, teenagers and adults at festivals, fairs, parties, grand openings, corporate events and far more; even decorating the bellies of mommies-to-be. 🙂
It is easy to see why she was honored/awarded among THREE BEST RATED at the top the area’s Face-Painting Businesses. Again congratulations for being recognized as a top face-painter!”

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND HER WORK (in her own words):
Along with being a face painter, temporary tattoo artist, and creating henna hand designs these past several years, I am also a storyteller, balloon sculptor, clown, dancer, and clown.
My name is Georgena Askew. I have been a lifelong resident of El Paso. I received my bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in El Paso, Texas and my Masters degree from Sul Ross State University (SRSU) in Alpine, Texas. I have taught in the public schools and for the El Paso Community College for over 26 years. I’ve taught several subjects including art, drama, music and bilingual kindergarten (Spanish/English) and worked for ten years as an elementary school librarian.
Since 1990, I’ve worked as an entertainer and professional face painter doing festivals, craft fairs, grand openings, corporate picnics, special events and birthday parties. All of my face/body painting is done free hand with hypo-allergenic paints which are formulated for safe use on children’s sensitive skin.
I also do temporary and henna style tattoos, which are done freehand as well. They last approximately a week.
I have also worked part-time for the city of El Paso’s Museum and Cultural Arts Department doing storytelling, balloon twisting and/or face-painting. The stories can be presented to children or adults.
In the summer, I work with the public library’s summer reading programs doing face-painting and storytelling/dance performances.

PS: The FOFO Photo Gallery demonstrates several of the more popular designs. However, for the interest of more accessibility for sight impaired people and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), I’ll list several of the more popular cheek, arm and face-painting designs here which are traditionally requested by children in the greater El Paso and Las Cruces areas; such as hearts, ladybug, butterfly, hummingbird, balloon, unicorn, bunny, spider, flowery swirls, cupcakes, dog (especially similar to Scooby Doo), eagle, tiger, soccer ball, heroic icons like, Spiderman, Captain America, Superman, Wonder Woman, Hulk, and characters from whatever movie is of interest to youngsters. Halloween pumpkins and any other holiday designs can also be popular any time of year; for example, in our area, traditional Dia de Muertos (Day of Dead) designs are a hit year ‘round.
